Knowing your options can be a good thing

If you're using social media marketing to promote your ebiz or even your 'brick&mortar' business there's some insider scoop you should know. Deciding whether to use Facebook or MySpace (often spoken of as the Coke & Pepsi of Social Networking sites) may depend on what approach you are taking. Want to know more? If you're not in the lead car... the view never changes!

For years now I have used Traffic Exchanges (T/E's) to show my various promotions to others. When used in an organized plan, T/E's can be an important part of your website promotion scheme.

The advent of Social Marketing and WEB 2.0 techniques have added a NEW dimension to getting traffic to your website, blog or building an audience that will listen to what you have to say. But the use of T/E's still can play an integral part in the overall process. That is, if you use the exchanges that really provide RESULTS!

Today I joined a relatively new T/E on the scene. It's known as Traffic Taxis and like the title of this short post says... If you're not in the lead car... the view never changes! So, if you're looking for visitors to your website, blog or spash page, using Traffic Taxis can be a great addition to your overall plan for getting that traffic. Join us today and start surfing for your traffic.

Finding Success on Twitter

Hello again,

This is not a lengthy post so you can read it fast and move on...

Yesterday I checked my email and was thrilled to see another group of people following me on Twitter. That's always encouraging and I always check out those who follow to see if they have something really great to share.

I was saddened to discover that there are some who join
TWITTER and simply do not understand the "Social" part of Social Marketing.

Why in the world would anyone join a Social Marketing site and make all their information PRIVATE? The idea here is to communicate and share information. Not hide it!

So come on people. Talk to your audience. They may NOT know or even be aware that they have done this... so here's a clue as to "how to" un-do this if you suspect you're not having all the success you want on Twitter.

GO TO your Settings page. Look at the bottom of the form where you'll find a "check box" labeled: Protect My Updates

If you have that CHECKBOX selected... your 140 character "tweets" will only be seen by the people that you personally approve.

The text below the check box reads as follows:
"Only let people whom I approve follow my updates. If this is checked, you WILL NOT be on the public timeline." The public timeline is all your posts... Why do them if only one or two people will see them? Not very SOCIAL is it?

Here's to making your use of TWITTER more "social" and profitable,

Making Social Marketing and WEB 2.0
Work For YOU

One of the neatest things that I have discovered in the world of Social Marketing and WEB 2.0 is the availability of methods available to users that allow you and me to post in one place and have that information show up all over the internet.

Well… not Everywhere… but at least in a LOT of places! There's a phrase that I first heard from my friend the "Niche Prof" and that phrase is: "Economy of Action." What that means is that when you learn how and where to post most effectively, your posts will (if you have the setup done in advance) appear on numerous other pages at other Social Marketing sites where you have accounts.

How many times have you been looking through pages online and seen something that you'd love to share with your friends? If you browse with Firefox and have the "ShareAholic" plug-in installed, doing that "share" is a couple of clicks away… Want the ShareAholic plug-in? Google it and you'll be taken to the download page. Install it and you'll have a little Green Icon to the left of your Browser's address bar. When any page address is displayed (that you want to share) simply click the Green Icon and a window pops on-screen with links to several Social Marketing sites that you can share this address on. Places like Twitter, FaceBook and Delicious to name a few. There are many more and I do imagine the list will continue to grow?

So, taking the term "Economy of Action" into view… you find something to share, click the "Green Icon" and away you go… sharing your newfound info with your friends. Get it? This saves a lot of steps… and shares it INSTANTLY with anyone looking at their Twitter or FaceBook page… which it seems like many people all-but live on these days.

More tips, in another post soon…

What's Up Today With WEB 2.0 ?

There is so much buzz today about WEB 2.0 and just everybody is suddenly an expert on the subject! My comment on that relates to the definition of "Expert" as related to me by an elderly relative some many years ago. He said that an "Ex" is a "has been" and a "spurt" is like "a drop of water under pressure" so if you view an "Expert" from this perspective... you suddenly place less value on their "Expert" opinion.

So... take it from me, I'm a WEB 2.0 User that has discovered some things in WEB 2.0 that WORK really well for me and I'm here to share them with you. You can try them and use them to your advantage should you so choose. If you do use them, and they work as well for YOU as they worked for ME, then you can decide if I'm worth listening to or not. I won't have to tell you that I'm an Expert or not either... you'll already have your opinion.

Today's post is about Twitter. Hopefully you haven't been living under a rock or in a cave. That's about the ONLY way you could have missed out on at least hearing about Twitter. This is one of the hottest WEB 2.0 applications that I've run across. From your Twitter page you have the opportunity to post your thoughts about what you're doing, what you've done or what you're going to do. Or what you're thinking about, or anything... as long as you can keep it to no more than 140 characters. That's right, you are limited to 140 characters. As you learn more, you'll see that many users are skillful in their use of those prized 140 characters. They use "tiny url's" to squeeze in LONG url's to link you off to their webpage or to something they've found online that they want to share with you, the reader.

Other neat features include the ability to "follow" others and see what they're doing. If you're following someone, each time they make a post (their 140 characters) you see it on YOUR Twitter home page. And, if you're doing or saying something worthwhile, your friends can follow you!

There are SO many neat things you can do on TWITTER and NOW would be a GREAT time for you to get on over to Twitter and get started. Notice how I close out my post... with a signature line that offers you the invitation to "follow" me on Twitter. I also do that in my emails. You can do that too... while building YOUR audience! The "GURU's" are doing it... Why not YOU?

Social Networking and WEB 2.0

My expertise in getting traffic to my website and to the websites of my clients had always been through such "normal" methods as SEO, paid traffic and even surfing on traffic exchanges. With the new wave of WEB 2.0 techniques I had begun learning all I could, as fast as I could, and using these methods to boost my traffic and when I saw results... I passed it on to my clients.

Earlier this year I attended a seminar and made acquaintance with one of the leading experts in Social Networking and WEB 2.0 - Dr. Ron Capps - known online as the "Niche Prof." Now I'm learning even more, as a result of having met the "Niche Prof" and there may even be a book in the works down the road.

If you're not using the myriad opportunities for all the targeted traffic you can stand... using WEB 2.0 techniques... you're likely to get left in the dust! Join me here on the blog as I begin my article series on great ways that you can begin learning the in's and out's of WEB 2.0 and Social Marketing that will boost your web traffic over the top! You always wanted traffic. It's out there! Come and Get IT!!!
